**Itaú Maratón de Santiago** is Chile's largest running event, held in the country's capital against the spectacular backdrop of the Andes Mountains. Since its debut in 2007, the race has attracted thousands of runners from South America and around the world. Certified by World Athletics/AIMS, it is part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors Age Group qualifying programme. Participants can choose between three distances: 10K, half marathon and marathon. The course starts in front of the historic La Moneda Presidential Palace and takes runners through Santiago's wide avenues, modern neighbourhoods and historic city centre. With breathtaking views of the Andes and enthusiastic crowds along the route, the race offers a memorable running experience. Gentle climbs and an elevation of more than 500 metres above sea level add an extra challenge, combining sporting excitement with an opportunity to explore Chile's vibrant capital.
