New Year’s Marathon Zurich is a unique New Year running event held in Schlieren, near Zurich, Switzerland. The race begins at exactly midnight between December 31 and January 1, allowing participants to welcome the new year with a sporting challenge. The programme includes a marathon, half marathon, 10.55K quarter marathon, marathon relay and a short children's race. The predominantly flat course follows a 10.55-kilometre loop along the Limmat River, mainly on natural paths. Marathon runners complete four laps in the darkness, often using headlamps in the winter conditions. Both the start and finish are inside the Unterrohr sports hall, where spectators cheer on participants. The intimate atmosphere and unusual midnight start make this a memorable way to begin the running year.
