The Edinburgh Marathon is Scotland's largest marathon and is widely regarded as one of the fastest in the UK, with its next edition taking place on 30 May 2027. The race starts in the heart of Edinburgh, at Potterrow, and leads east along the East Lothian coastline to the finish in Musselburgh. A downhill opening gives way to a flat, coastal second half that suits runners chasing a personal best. Founded in 2003, the festival welcomed more than 40,000 runners in 2026 and has sold out every year since 2008. Alongside the marathon, the programme includes a half marathon, a team relay, a 10K, a 5K and junior races.
